En ja, dis regtig so erg! ROFL
Then there is the partial Solar eclipse…
In the morning of 26 January 2009, a partial solar eclipse can be seen from everywhere in South Africa.
From the Cradle of Humankind
we will see a partial eclipse of the Sun on Monday 26 January 2009 from 07:07 to 09:46. That morning, professional astronomers will guide you through the eclipse at a special eclipse breakfast & viewing event in the
Boma at Kloofzicht Lodge (www.kloofzicht.co.za).
During breakfast, we will give an informative, entertaining talk about solar eclipses and African sky lore, and throughout the occurrence our astronomers will operate a specialised Sun viewing telescope and several other telescopes fitted with solar filters. We will also provide eclipse viewers (safety glasses) for each guest.
After the eclipse, we will keep the telescopes, equipment and eclipse viewers there for a few additional hours so that guests have more time to view the Sun. Close inspection through these telescopes of the Sun’s surface reveals a turbulent tangle of magnetic fields and boiling arc-shaped clouds of hot plasma dappled by dark, roving sunspots. Thoroughly captivating.

Spotting the Sun in Pretoria
The Astronomy section of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Unisa will set up telescopes in the parking lot outside our Observatory on the main campus in Pretoria (Muckleneuk Ridge) to image the eclipsed Sun (weather permitting), and there will be people on hand to answer questions. Eclipse glasses will be available. Viewing the Sun through on H-beta filter will also be possible.
Eclipse Viewing in Cape Town
On the morning, from 7 a.m., the Iziko Planetarium Cape Town will be setting up in the Museum Amphitheatre (in front of the South African Museum in the Company’s Gardens) to view the eclipse.
Telescope(s) will be set up, a number of free viewers and handouts explaining the phenomena will be available for the public.
As demand warrants, short planetarium shows will be run to illustrate what exactly is taking place and the difference between full, partial and annular eclipses.

Hello???
DO NOT LOOK DIRECLY AT THE SUN. Not using proper protection will cause serious damage to your eyes. Do not use chip or tea packet foil, and even welder’s glasses allow some harmful solar radiation through. Also do not use a stack of old negatives or ‘smoked glass’. Not using proper approved material will cause permanent damage to your eyes. Oh, also never look at the Sun with binoculars or a telescope! You may loose your eyesight immediately. Sun glasses don’t help, as they let the heat through!
You can order Eclipse glasses here
The next similar eclipse for South Africans will be in 2016.

My magical day!

Hierdie is die jaar van die sterre. Het jy al ‘n teleskoop? Gaan loer hier of hier
Dankie sommer byvoorbaat
Sterre is magical!! ![]()

Ns:
Die tye van verduistering:
Kaapstad 7h00 – 9h37 (74% verduistering)
Bloemfontein 7h04 – 9h46 (47% verduistering)
Durban 7h07 – 9h55 (56 % verduistering)
Johannesburg 7h08 – 9h46 (46% verduistering)
Harare 7h28 – 9h31 (18 % verduistering)
Dus hoe verder Suid, hoe meer die verduistering, maar ook korter.
Laasgenoemde inligting uit my nuwe “Sky Guide for Africa South 2009″!
